Implant Placements

Single Or Multiple Implant Placements

Implant Placements IN SARASOTA BY Dr. Jennifer Fiorica

PURPOSE

A dental implant is a screw-shaped titanium post that is placed into your jawbone to simulate a tooth root. After approximately 3-4 months, the implant forms a union with your natural bone structure. When the final crown is placed, it will feel, look, and function as if your natural tooth was never missing.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

This procedure is a team effort between you, your dentist, and your periodontist. Depending on your specific circumstance, a treatment plan will be tailored to meet your needs. Implants may be placed for multiple reasons including:

  • Replacement of a single tooth
  • Replacement of multiple teeth
  • Replacement to form a bridge
  • Replacement of all of your teeth with an implant-supported denture

RECOVERY TIME

Approximately 1-2 days. Every patient differs on level of discomfort.

Extraction With Immediate Implant Placement

PURPOSE

If a tooth is requiring extraction and an implant is desired, in certain specific instances, the implant may be performed at the same time as the extraction. Your periodontist will evaluate whether you meet the criteria to have this performed.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

  • Approximately 1-2 hours with the use of a local anesthetic.
  • First, the tooth is extracted and socket debrided. If your periodontist feels the implant may be placed, a series of drills will expand your bone and allow for implant placement. A bone graft will fill the surrounding surgical site.
  • A post-operative visit to check on your healing and to remove any remaining sutures will take place approximately two weeks following your surgery date. The implant will heal for 4 months prior to crown placement.

RECOVERY TIME

Approximately 1-2 days. Every patient differs on level of discomfort.
